When I saw you, you weren’t easy to find We were in the back of our heads and the line You pulled the sleeve to my skin I knew right then that’s where you’d get in Just a matter of time When I find my way back home again Go ahead don’t wait for me You pulled the sleeve to my skin I knew right then that’s where you’d get in Just a matter of time When I find my way back home again Go ahead don’t wait for me

Slip into the night, I left without a trace Am I going down Half a mile from home, just another hit Am I going down I’m hanging on a thread, I guess this is it But I can’t fall down But I’m losing my grip, and I’ve got to hang on I’ve got to hang on And this faith in me holds me close enough for you to break through me, I know And it may be everything that you thought a love could be, I know I know when your right, and I know when your wrong It all comes around, it comes back around We could hold on forever, or just quit now How does that sound? And this faith in me holds me close enough for you to break through me, I know And it may be everything that you thought a love could be, I know

I’ll climb over mountain tops, over snow caps and stars to be in your arms Crawl across ledges, dodge falling rocks Anything to touch your skin again There’s nothing that’s impossible when I’m in your arms I’ll move through the burning desert, under the spotlight of the sun When the only shielding me is your love There’s nothing that’s impossible when I’m in my heart Stay And the wind and the rain may blow harder than any storm in the Bering sea I’ll push with the will of ten thousand men through the fierce waters till is sets me free There’s nothing that’s impossible when your with me Stay I’m going to change this world, with these angels to be my guide Keep peace inside my heart, though there might be a war outside There’s nothing that’s impossible when your by my side Stay

Learning 05:34
I’ve learned if you wait for something better it might all just pass you by Some things are better left unsaid, but the hardest things to say do no good kept inside Sometimes the things that matter seem the last thing on your mind And the simplest things can seem hard to find I’ve learned that fear can do you harm It can hold you and pull you back from the strength you need to carry on And the sweetness of love can be just as bitter too Any gift in life should be sacred within me and you I feel without knowing where you come from can blind you where your going to But then again, where we begin we can always start anew And sometimes being sheltered can keep you out in the storm Yes some will learn to let go and some to hold on as we dance in and out of each others arms So hold light up Can’t you see we ain’t alone out here Under these glorious skies, there ain’t nothing to fear And now I see it so clear
5.
I was the one that had you flooded in tears I kissed you softly then I disappeared There were all those nights and stolen smiles You made me see myself, and I was wrong I will take the blame, but please don’t take me from your heart Sometime the things that we keep within Can make it impossible to ever begin But now like a rain that’s blown away You begin to see light And now I’m ready to begin I will take the blame, please don’t take me from your heart And please don’t say that there’s no use trying Wilt away trying to save a dying love I will take the blame, please don’t take me from your heart

about

Every lyric speaks from the heart on Qwill's EP, The Past Must Present. ; the grainy timbre of his voice is made for roots music. It lends a bit of soulful grit to the album’s acoustic guitar-driven tracks, like “Hanging on a Thread” and “Take the Blame.” Rounded out by drums, saxophone, vibes, and pedal steel guitar. These tracks, while solid, are bookended by two standouts. The opener “Matter of Time” is a tasty slice of indie pie, combining acoustic instruments with electronic beats behind Qwill’s nasal vocal approach. He scores the brilliant closer “Scars” in the opposite direction. It’s minimal and lo-fi, stripped down to finger picked acoustic, foot tapping, and a poignant falsetto that fits alongside the Bon Iver canon.
